Hinata's major achievement are getting asswhooped even against 3 zetsu's
When rookies were fighting juubi fission's she got the most hits but all on incapacitating one minion and that was her best feat in entire manga

Even for the fight people praise her for she was thrashed against neji failing to do even single damage to him and against pain where she was one shotted

I think its stupid to criticize characters like Orihime and Hinata for not being strong. They're reflections of a then-popular trope of needing to have one tough female character (or at least brutish and loud, basically some chick for the mc to argue with) such as Sakura and Rukia as well as one that is silent and shy such as Hinata and Orihime.

They weren't there to be OP. They serve to motivate the mc and what not. Hinata herself was the reason why a lot of important things happened. If it wasn't for her Neji/Naruto conflict wouldn't have happened and Neji would never have changed for the better. If it wasn't for her Naruto would've been taken by Pain and the series would've ended there. If it wasn't for her we don't know what would happen in the war after Neji died since she was the one who snaped Naruto out of it.

Feel free to criticize the characters, but do so in a smarter way by taking into account the nature of what you're criticizing.

What do you mean by portrayal? If it's their role in the narrative I just gave an outline of how Hinata was very significant in the story.
