^Is this an option? As far as I could tell it wasn't and it's pretty annoying lol.

It's by default on XenForo.

Then again, it makes sense, considering I wouldn't want to see long space breaks on mini-profiles because of statuses.

Yeah, could be misused too, but it can be a bit of an annoyance if you just want to line break. Overall, it's not really a big deal.
