Discussion Comfy Café #14

its my favourite time of the year

And you will have it cool when we have it sweltering.

Goes to the beach in just swim trunks and makes a sandman. While my sister and bro-in-law in Germany struggle with -5 to -9 Celsius weather.

Indeed. There are ongoing fan projects using this sort of shite to "port" stuff to PC and Linux. Even Android. Recall that one glorious Chinese mofo who ported Witcher 3 to Android? Absolute mad lad.

Goodnight, cursed creeper.

Yup. Switch & Click is going to cover Linux on smartphones and how to boot up Ubuntu touch on any smartphone. She says that so far, the best bets are Lenovo devices.

From what I have seen so far, she has gotten Ubuntu touch running on a formerly Android smartphone. She has not tried other Linux smartphone distros, since they are more difficult to work with. SailfishOS is promising, especially since it has some capabilities to force-run Android apps. The problem with SailfishOS, however, is that it is proprietary to Jolla (a Finnish company) despite being based on Ubuntu.

Goodnight, tail magnet.

More and more people the world over are switching to open source Linux distros on their PCs. Even entire nations are following suite. Hopefully, the Linux revolution comes to smartphone as well. I am fukking sick and tired of the iOS-Android duopoly. I hope for a day when we have smartphones with no OS and we can install whatever we choose on them. Or, at the very least, smartphones with truly open source operating systems that are easy for everyone to use.

Goodnight, gooner slayer.
