Oh, please. Anybody who thinks that The Last Jedi tried to shove a feminist agenda down our throats is either too insecure as a man OR reading too much into a movie made for 12 year old children. Yes, that is and has always been the primary target audience of the Star Wars films. It's just that they also care about 12 year old girls now, not just 12 year old boys.

You want to talk toxic feminism? How about the Transformers films having those ridiculous "fight like a girl/woman" ads featuring a minor character who was just badly written and there for like five minutes? Or Wonder Woman being paraded as some feminist superhero film, when it is simply not?

I do indeed think Star Wars has a feminist turn these days. But that is welcome from a franchise which has been a sausage-fest for forty F@cking years. I would also like to point out that the larger blue-print of the sequel trilogy is in line with George Lucas's vision.

If George Lucas made the sequel trilogy, here is what we would be getting:

Kira is an orphaned scavenger in her mid to late teens, growing up on a harsh desert world. She one day becomes involved with a New Republic starfighter pilot and former Stormtrooper. She later on discovers that she is Force sensitive. She gets involved with a Dark Side adept who has some relation to Luke Skywalker. Luke has exiled himself to the location of the first Jedi temple and refuses to take part in galactic affairs. The reason he exiled himself was because his Jedi Order was destroyed, he failed as a master as one of his students fell to the Dark Side, and he just wants to die alone. Kira comes along and asks to be trained, she instils new hope in him, some shit happens and he sacrifices himself as a true Jedi.

Tell me. Does any of this sound F@cking familiar to you?

And you want to talk agendas? The prequel trilogy openly shoved propaganda down our throats, showing us the evils of capitalism, big banks, mega-corporations, the military industrial complex, how dictators don't steal power but have it given to them by the brainwashed masses.

The Clone Wars animated series has a no-less-blatant feminist agenda than the sequel trilogy. Lucas and Filoni clearly made Ahsoka to be a character who would appeal to young girls and she did become a feminist icon among Star Wars characters, just like Leia.

Do you know why George Lucas sold to Disney instead of making his sequel trilogy himself? Two reasons:

1. He always thought Disney could make good Star Wars movies. There are interviews George Lucas did in the 1990s and even in the 1980s where he says that if he thought anybody other than him could make Star Wars movies, it would be Disney.

2. The prequel trilogy bandwagon haters broke him. They F@cking broke him. He lost the will to make any more Star Wars content. He sold Lucasfilm, his precious baby, for far less than what it was actually worth. Because he was sick of it all. This is what toxic fandom accomplishes.

Disney didn't kill Star Wars. Toxic fans - who don't know how to criticise like rational adults and who think the franchise should go in only the directions of their own stupid headcanons and who see agendas where there are none - did kill Star Wars once and threaten to do so again.

And one thing I can say about the sequel trilogy: Despite all its flaws, at least it doesn't read like a very convoluted fanfiction (as does most of the good old "Legends" continuity which people like to put on a pedestal). Don't get me wrong. There is a lot of good in legends. But much of it is just bland or outright terrible. And don't even get me started on how it just goes against much of Lucas's vision.

It's worth one watch at least, especially if you plan on watching The Clone Wars animated series. Still a chore.
