Both booze and drugs are something that you decide to consume while there can be different number of factors leading upto it and I maybe simplifying it at the end of day it's their decision.

What I meant is if you have ******* clean river,underpopulated countrisides.Tourist places that looks like heaven,clean roads and laws that work and is followed and implemented would take much of edge off.

I've been to these places, dude. And my sister & bro-in-law live there. I have four family members working for the NHS in England. I also have one relative and two clients working for the German state. I have also extensively studied the major problems in some of their tax regimes (especially the UK and Denmark), welfare states, and handling of public transportation and healthcare.

The "clean" parts of Europe only make up a small fraction of what you see. Otherwise, the rest of the cities and towns are no different from the shittier parts of Bangalore or New York City. Take Galluswarte or Hauptbahnhof in Frankfurt, for example. They're no different from like . . . the seedier parts of Majestic and Seshadripuram in Bangalore. Naples is no cleaner than Basavanagudi in Bangalore (where I live) and is even worse in some regards. Don't even get me started on how much of a fukking dump the urban and even most suburban areas in the UK are.

The sad truth is that only as much as 20% of EU residents live the comfortable middle class life that you see in entertainment media. 80% of them struggle to make rent every month even with both spouses earning. Owning their own home (even a modest two bedroom plus single bathroom) is nigh impossible unless you come from an upper middle class background (disposable income after taxes and savings of Euro 50k-80k in Cologne or Frankfurt, for reference) to begin with. Subsidized social housing has been done away with almost completely or are currently on their death beds in many EU nations (with the UK and France being the worst offenders). A not-small fraction of employed EU residents can no longer afford a family car and rely either on cheap two-wheelers or solely on public transportation - the latter of which is slowly being fukked. The welfare state which was put in place as a placatory measure for Cold War era socialist unions who wanted full on socialist reforms (especially in the UK, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Portugal, even Denmark) is slowly but surely being eroded away (Source: Noam Chomsky, Yanis Varoufakis, Vijay Prashad, many others). Universal healthcare has been almost fully successfully gutted in the UK and Poland, and may face the same fate in many other western European nations in the coming two decades. Social safety nets and pensions are slowly being eroded away in most EU nations and thus; wealth inequality, poverty, even child mortality and malnutrition are rapidly rising in the UK, France, and many other EU nations. Direct tax collections from high net worth assessees are seeing shortfalls despite EU mega-corporations seeing record levels of revenues and profits; resulting in shifting of tax burdens onto the middle & lower classes via increased indirect taxation (in addition to rampant price gouging by corporations) and even increased direct taxation on lower income assessees (with the UK and Denmark being the biggest offenders in this regard). The Scandinavian nations are faring better, but even they are showing cracks that could become major trouble down the line.

The European common folk are not doing well. They, like us common folk in the global south, are being ass-raped by capitalism and even a weird form of Intra-Global-North imperalism [the US has essentially made the EU a sort of vassal state].
