I love how Mark Hamill cares about his Luke role to the point he isn't liking how he was written in the movies.

 

Guys ruined Luke and made him depressed, how in the **** did the most positive Jedi turn like this.

Unpopular opinion:

Jedi's are just Priest's with a lightsaber. Prove me wrong.

They fight with the holy as their powers in this case force.
They shouldn't have kids.
They uses staves, in this case a lightsaber.

 

Luke is far from the most "positive" Jedi, especially not given his dark streak in ROTJ and both the Legends & Canon EUs.

If any Jedi can be deemed "the most positive", it is Obi-Wan Kenobi. Ahsoka Tano is also a contender.

Also, it was not "ruining his character" to make him human, to make him relatable, to have him make mistakes, to have him feel despair, to have him reject his own religion as deeply flawed and actually harmful to the galaxy (something which many of today's youth can relate to). George Lucas shoved down our throats the idea of the Jedi Order being deeply flawed and potentially harmful to the galaxy in the prequels and TCW, and this idea lived on.

Hell, the first episode of Lucas's planned sequel trilogy was pretty much The Last Jedi, but with more midichlorian and maxichlorian shit. Luke being in exile after seeing the flaws of the Jedi Order is actually a pretty old idea that dates back to the late 1990s. It's certainly better writing than having a bland overpowered Grand Master Luke like in Legends.

This is not an unpopular opinion, dear boy

Lucas himself has stated that the Jedi Order is inspired by East Asian religious orders and their monks, and tonnes of people have commented about the Jedi religious order like this. Even in-universe the Jedi are seen as holy warriors of the Force (by their supporters in the galaxy) OR as a bunch of religious fanatics or cultists with too much power (by their detractors in the galaxy).
